DRAFT:1
Step Brothers
In the movie Step Brothers, Brennan and Dale clearly do not act their age. Men that are in their 40's should not be acting like they are in grade school. I believe that there are serious Psychological issues surrounding their abrupt behaviors. I also believe that this type of behavior is heavily brought on by the parenting on these two men.
Growing up I was the oldest child on both sides of my family. I have watched every type of parenting possible and can pick out what works and what does not. I have these two cousins, Matthew and Alexandra, who when your hear their names you already know you are in for a ridiculous story. They act out at every social event and always cause a huge scene. Alexandra is a very stubborn 12 year old who is 5'11 and over 300 pounds. She could commit a murder and her parents would find ways to accept what she has done and reward her. She has had the cops called on her many times for refusing to go to school and also for violent behavior. Her brother Matthew is 15 but acts like he is 5. Last April my family went out to dinner for my uncles birthday. At that start of dinner everything seemed somewhat normal, which was rare. As the night progressed it all started to go downhill. Matthew starts off by eating the entire basket of bread to himself and proceeds by eating every individual butter packet. He then ends up spilling a full glass of ice water all over the table. It was now time to order our meals. He orders two appetizers and the most expensive entree on the menu. When the food arrived he felt that the appetizers he ordered we not to be shared because he felt he was entitled to have them for himself. When his entree arrived he struggled with cutting his food and he made sure that the whole restaurant knew about it. His food ended up flying across the table leaving nothing on his plate. Naturally everyone started laughing however, he threw a temper tantrum until he received a fresh plate of food. When it came down to desert we already had a cake in our name. Matthew continued to throw a hissy fit until he received a different desert.
I personally believe that their behavior was brought on by how they were raised. 5 years prior their parents split.Their parenting was vastly different. Their mother believed in tight restrictions and believed in punishment. She only allowed her children to eat organic foods, no sugar, and only water. Their father always fixed things with money and new apparatuses. If the children acted up and carried on high he would pacifier them with whatever they desired.
I feel that Brennan and Dale relied on their parents for way too long. When things fell through the blame was never put upon their shoulders. 40 year old men should not have to rely on their parents for housing, money, and physical protection. In the movie when Brennan and Dale were beat up by grade schoolers this is a prime example of lack of self protection. They could not stand up against children much younger then them because they themselves act like children. The two Step Brothers rely on their parents to save and protect them through everything.
